Clinician-led assessment and IV iron treatment if medically indicated.
At Promed Health & Derma in Bootle, we provide private, CQC-regulated iron infusion assessment and treatment for adults with diagnosed iron deficiency or iron deficiency anaemia, where oral iron is not suitable, not tolerated, or clinically insufficient.
All treatments are prescribed only after a face-to-face consultation, review of blood results, and assessment of medical history by our independent prescriber. Treatment is only offered if medically indicated and safe for you.
Iron is essential for making red blood cells, which carry oxygen around your body. When iron levels are low, your body cannot produce enough healthy red blood cells, which can lead to iron deficiency anaemia.
Iron deficiency may be caused by reduced dietary intake, reduced absorption, increased demand, or increased blood loss. Identifying the underlying cause is important and will be discussed during your consultation.
Low iron and iron deficiency anaemia can affect people differently. Commonly reported symptoms include:
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, a clinical assessment and blood tests are required to determine the cause.
An IV iron infusion delivers iron directly into the bloodstream via a vein. It is not suitable for everyone and is only considered when clinically appropriate.
Where treatment is medically indicated, some patients report:
Individual response varies. Benefits, dosage, and suitability will be discussed with you during your consultation after your blood results.
Following assessment, IV iron may be considered for adults who:

Full risks will be discussed during your consent appointment.
We have a clear 3-step pathway to ensure treatment is safe, appropriate and evidence-based.

If treatment is not indicated, we will advise on next steps and onward referral to your GP if needed.
If treatment is agreed as suitable and you provide informed consent:

Yes. It is a CQC and clinical requirement. We require FBC, CRP and iron status to confirm deficiency, exclude infection, and prescribe safely.
The appointment typically takes 60-90 minutes including safety checks, infusion time, and post-infusion monitoring.
Response varies between individuals. Your clinician will discuss expected timelines based on your results and medical history. Repeat blood tests are usually recommended after a few weeks.
With your consent, we can share a summary of your consultation and treatment with your GP for continuity of care.
We assess your history and blood results, but investigation into the underlying cause of iron deficiency (e.g. gastrointestinal causes) should be led by your NHS GP. If we have concerns, we will advise you to seek further NHS evaluation.
