Concerned about thinning hair or a receding hairline?
The Liverpool Hair Clinic provides GP-led assessment and personalised treatment for male pattern baldness and androgenetic alopecia at Promed Health & Derma.
The Liverpool Hair Clinic at Promed Health & Derma provides medically led assessment and treatment for men experiencing thinning hair, a receding hairline, crown thinning or male pattern baldness.
Male pattern baldness, also known as androgenetic alopecia, is driven by a combination of genetics and androgen activity. In susceptible follicles, dihydrotestosterone (DHT) contributes to progressive follicular miniaturisation, causing hairs to become finer, shorter and less visible over time.
Our resident GP, Dr Abby, has an interest in male hair loss and takes an evidence-based approach to diagnosis, treatment planning and long-term monitoring. Your consultation includes assessment of your pattern of hair loss, family history, medical history, medication and scalp health, with blood testing available where clinically indicated.
Following assessment, Dr Abby will create a personalised treatment plan based on your degree of hair loss, goals and clinical suitability. This may include contemporary topical treatment strategies, scalp and hair-care advice, monitoring and further investigation where required.
The aim is to identify the cause of your hair loss, protect existing hair where possible and support healthier growth with a structured, medically supervised plan.
If you are concerned about a receding hairline, thinning crown or progressive hair loss, book a Male Hair Loss Consultation at the Liverpool Hair Clinic, located within Promed Health & Derma.

What causes Male Pattern Baldness?
Male pattern baldness, or androgenetic alopecia, results from a combination of genetic susceptibility and androgen hormone activity. DHT contributes to progressive miniaturisation of susceptible scalp follicles, causing hairs to become progressively finer and shorter. The British Association of Dermatologists describes this same DHT-driven miniaturisation mechanism.
Can male pattern baldness be treated?
There are evidence-based treatment options that may slow progression and improve hair growth in suitable men, although results differ between individuals and treatment does not restore follicles indefinitely once advanced loss has occurred. Licensed and off-license treatments can be considered as part of your personalised plan.
Should I see a doctor about thinning hair?
It can be worthwhile, particularly if hair loss is rapid, unusual in pattern, associated with scalp symptoms or accompanied by other health changes. A medical assessment can distinguish likely androgenetic alopecia from other causes of hair loss.
Do I need blood tests for male hair loss?
Not every man with typical male pattern baldness requires blood testing. However, when the history or pattern suggests another contributing cause, investigations may be appropriate.
How long does hair-loss treatment take to work?
Hair grows slowly, so treatment response is assessed over months rather than days or weeks. Long-term consistency and review are usually important.
Is topical treatment effective for male pattern hair loss?
Depending on your personalised plan, topical or oral medications can be considered and their effectiveness can be monitored as part of your ongoing journey.
