Women’s Hormone, Menopause & HRT Assessment Liverpool

Women’s Hormone Health Assessment

Hormonal changes can affect almost every part of a woman’s wellbeing, including energy, mood, sleep, weight, concentration, skin, hair, libido and menstrual health.

At Promed Health & Derma, our Women’s Hormone Health Assessment is designed to investigate symptoms properly and look at the wider clinical picture rather than relying on one isolated hormone result.

Your assessment begins with a detailed review of your symptoms, medical history, menstrual history where relevant, current medication, contraception or HRT use, lifestyle and overall health.

Blood testing may then be recommended to help identify hormonal, nutritional, thyroid or metabolic factors that could be contributing to how you feel.

Testing may include oestradiol, FSH, LH, progesterone, testosterone, SHBG, prolactin and thyroid function. Depending on your symptoms and clinical history, we may also assess full blood count, iron and ferritin, vitamin B12, folate, vitamin D, liver and kidney function, cholesterol, blood glucose or HbA1c and other relevant health markers.

Understanding Hormonal Symptoms

Hormonal symptoms can overlap with many other medical conditions.

Fatigue, brain fog, low mood, poor sleep, weight changes, hair loss and reduced libido can be associated with hormonal changes, but they can also occur with thyroid dysfunction, iron deficiency, vitamin deficiencies, metabolic problems, stress, medication effects and other health conditions.

For this reason, our approach is based on careful clinical assessment rather than assuming that every symptom is caused by menopause or a hormone imbalance.

Menopause and Perimenopause Assessment

Perimenopause can begin several years before periods stop completely and symptoms can vary significantly between women.

Common symptoms may include:

Hot flushes and night sweats

Changes in menstrual cycles

Sleep disturbance

Brain fog and poor concentration

Mood changes or irritability

Anxiety

Low energy

Reduced libido

Vaginal dryness or discomfort

Headaches

Joint and muscle aches

Changes in body composition or weight

Hair and skin changes

In many women over 45 with typical symptoms, menopause or perimenopause can often be assessed clinically without relying solely on hormone blood tests.

However, blood testing may still be useful where symptoms are unusual, the diagnosis is uncertain, periods have stopped at a younger age, or another medical condition needs to be excluded.

A Full Health Assessment – Not Just a Hormone Test

Our aim is to understand the cause of your symptoms and help you make informed decisions about your health.

Your clinician may discuss sleep, nutrition, exercise, weight, cardiovascular health, bone health, sexual wellbeing and other lifestyle factors alongside your hormone results.

Where appropriate, treatment options may include lifestyle changes, management of nutritional deficiencies, further investigation or discussion of hormone replacement therapy.

Hormone Replacement Therapy

If HRT is clinically appropriate, your clinician will discuss the potential benefits, risks and different treatment options available.

Treatment is personalised according to your symptoms, medical history, age, risk factors and whether you have a uterus.

Options may include oestrogen delivered through patches, gels or other preparations, with progesterone added where required for endometrial protection.

Some women may also be considered for testosterone therapy where clinically appropriate, particularly where persistent low sexual desire remains problematic despite appropriate management of other contributing factors.

Safe Hormone Monitoring

Hormone treatment should be reviewed regularly to make sure it remains safe, effective and appropriate.

Follow-up appointments allow your clinician to assess symptom improvement, side effects, blood pressure, bleeding patterns and any changes to your medical history.

Blood tests are not required routinely for every woman using HRT, but they may be recommended where clinically indicated, particularly when monitoring certain treatments, investigating ongoing symptoms or assessing other health concerns.

Your treatment plan can then be adjusted where necessary.

Who Should Consider a Women’s Hormone Health Assessment?

You may benefit from an assessment if you are experiencing:

Persistent fatigue

Brain fog or difficulty concentrating

Low mood or irritability

Anxiety

Poor sleep

Hot flushes or night sweats

Changes in your menstrual cycle

Low libido

Vaginal dryness or discomfort

Hair thinning or hair loss

Unexplained weight changes

Reduced muscle strength

Joint or muscle aches

Symptoms of perimenopause or menopause

Concerns about your current HRT

Women already using hormone replacement therapy who would like a structured medical review can also book an assessment.
